Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA)

Liverpool

Education

On the initiative of Sir Paul McCartney, the Grade II Listed Liverpool Institute School was refurbished as a tertiary education institute for the performing arts. This project is heavily serviced, with dance studios, a stage and auditorium, recording studios, practice rooms, library, lecture theatres, etc. The conversion retained elements of the original building, including the Victorian Assembly Hall The scheme also includes a student bar and recreation facility and a site restaurant.

Later, when the adjoining site became available, the former Art College at which John Lennon attended, this too was converted into further teaching and performing spaces. Additional spaces were included for theatre carpentry and workshop spaces and costume design and fabrication.
